Mindful conversation

The mindfulness conversation was an unusual experience for me. I took the informal route as I didn’t have anyone around that I felt super comfortable engaging with in such a structured way. I found that listening with complete attention and looping helped to gain an understanding that I definitely would not have otherwise have gained. It felt quite exhausting, to put in such effort for a regular conversation but I could see the benefits of such a technique for training attention. As I said I didn’t engage in the formal technique so I’m not sure how the other party felt, however, I did notice that they seemed convinced in my understanding of the situation.

Mindful walking

I think mindful walking will be the main technique that I take forward on a regular/everyday basis. I think that the act of concentrating on walking and that body in movement was an easy way of practicing mindfulness without the feeling of wasted time that I have noticed while practicing sitting meditation. Instead now I walk to a destination and complete my mindfulness in one!

I also can see the benefit of informal mindful conversation in terms of generating understanding of others and practicing attention strength.

Musings

The act of meditation itself is still feeling like a chore at the moment. I have come to recognise the potential benefits of the act, however, and will be interested to see how it effects my everyday life.
